A question about the Flip-Pal scanner: I'm thinking about giving one to myself for my birthday. Do I really need to purchase the package with the Creative Suite Craft Edition DVD? I'll be using it to scan genealogy docs and photos. Not interested in creating scrapbooks or such.

Ruth, Flip-Pal just recently added the software suite to it's inventory. It is not necessary to order the Creative Suite, especially if you are already using some other kind of photo software. In searching for the details about the suite I found that it includes the following software in the suite:

Slidshow Expressions
Digital Scrapbook Artist2
Family Tree Heritage
You can find a number of YouTube tutorials and/or website tutorials for each of the individual packages listed. Reviewing some of these might give you some ideas that would make the package appeal to you.
I tracked down the cost for each of these individually and found the following:
PagePlusx4 is an old version of this desktop publishing software which is selling for under $18. The current version 6 is selling for $89.
PhotoPlusx4 is an old version of this photo editing software and sells currently for under $14. Their current version is 5 and I found it for $59.
Slideshow Expressions will let you combine music and photos, burn CDs, and play on your smartphones and PDAs. It sells for $8 currently.
The Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 is selling for $30.
The Family Tree Heritage genealogy software program is selling for $20. (This is NOT one of the top selling software packages for Family History. I would always recommend RootsMagic instead.)
So individually you could acquire all of the software packages included for a price of $90 (not including any taxes or shipping on some of these.) So the Creative Suite is a good bargain at $50.
But you may find that you don't need all of these pieces and can purchase them separately. Or you might find one of them that you want but, you may want the most current version.

ReplyDeleteI have been using Paint Shop Pro for years for image editing, so I'll probably get the Flip-Pal without the Creative Suite.
Thanks so much your help on this! I've been wanting to get a Flip-Pal for some time now, but when I received some 1880's marriage docs yesterday and tried to scan them, I discovered a couple where too long for my conventional scanner. Looks like the time is NOW for the Flip-Pal!
